First Design:  General design operating specs:  100 psi (7 bar) and max operating temp of 500C
  • 40X34 mm fused quarts tubing 30 cm long, rated for roughly 1200C.  Not sure on pressure ratings vs. temp
  • All connections on one end to allow for easier addition of calorimeter
  • Mica wire supports 3.5 mm thickness
  • 6mm gas port
  • 6mm thermowell to get center temperature, and provide structural support for mica
  • 70 mm CF flanges with 6 mm grooves machined to receive glass.  Sealed in with high temperature ceramic adhesive rated for that purpose
  • 4 power wire passthrough via machined hole with bevel and bottom shoulder and custom sealed with ceramic.  Pass through 20 gauge copper wires to bolts through mica as terminal connections for heating wires.  Should be easy enough to change out wires that way.  External connections to power wires can be made by solder, crimp, or whatever.
  • There is room for another passthrough if we want to more internal sensors.  Thermocouples should be clad and could be sent through a compression fitting.  RTDs could be passed through in other ways.  What would be the best for measuring internal glass temperature?
  • The pressure sensor, valve, and associated fittings will be added to the model later.
