We got the United Automation thyristor stack controlling a little Kanthal A1 Coil. 2. We had the phase chopping and power being monitored by the PCE 830E 3. We observed the coil heat with the Williamson Pyrometer which was really easy to see what we are sampling with the spot focus guide. 4. We observed the coil heat with the Optris PI160 We could see how areas are set up for temperature averaging in the Optris software just like Lugano and we think that we should be able to output the live output as part of the livestream from the tests. We could also see how emissivity setting in the Optris varied the assessed temperature. We really need a thermocouple in play to understand what is going on fully. We also think we will be able to add the power output from the PCE830E onto the live feed, to control the thyristor stack from HUGNet.]]></description>

Our latest approach is to use a kind of 'lost wax' moulding process, we fashioned and cleaned a cylinder from copper pipe and popped to the hardware store for some candles, we were tempted by scented coloured ones, but in the end we got some plain white ones. I suspect that there will be plenty of Lithium left even if some diffuses into the solid Ni grains. If the cell gets hot enough to melt the Nickel (1455 C), the Lithium would already be in gas phase (1342 C).]]></description>

Speaking of which, lately I've been pondering about the hydrogen in the nickel at the temperatures reported by Rossi and Parkhomov. Can we tell for certain that over 1250-1300°C and possibly above that there will still be some loaded in the lattice? 			<description><![CDATA[Looking at the final write up on Evernote, it's interesting how the pressure reaches near 0 PSI (equilibrated with atmospheric pressure) at the end if the run and for awhile when power is turned off, and then decreased to an apparent slight vacuum (causing a pop when the seal was broken, too). The simplest explanation I can thick of, if it hasn't been said here already, is that the hot stainless steel was allowing equilibration of internal gas pressure with atmospheric at that high temperature (PV = nRT). So when power was turned off and the stainless steel started to cool, once it cooled past that hydrogen permeability point and became an impermeable barrier again, this equilibration of pressure was stopped. Thus, as the reactor continued to cool, this caused the gas pressure to continue to decrease to below atmosphere (negative PSI) due to that inability to equilize pressures due to the now impermeant stainless steel. In total, this would mean the pressure decrease was indeed likely due to permeation through the stainless steel, not loading into the nickel (or not dominately so), and once the reactor cooled enough this permeation stopped and the gas pressure reduced below atmospheric once it returned to room temperature. Now, that green tinting of the reactor core? No idea. It is a very interesting mystery! Copper from somewhere?]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[@Ecco I think Live Open Science's biggest disadvantage is not the quality of contributions, but rather the inability to attract significant funding sources like IH. Live Open Science's biggest advantage is that it it is free to explore/discuss a wider range of the idea landscape without the publication/fun ding constraints of traditional science. This can ultimately lead to different and simpler pathways to the "New Fire". What Live Open Science needs to fully succeed in my opinion is the equivalent of a copyleft license in open source software. This will act to "force" players to recontribute evolutionary intellectual property back to the commons. It will ultimately force all the big players into the "party" because our body of knowledge will be largest.]]></description>

I've just restored them for everybody to see and as a reminder for me to avoid engaging again in deep speculation on subjects I don't have a full knowledge of. This also shows a possible problem in Live Open Science: contribution quality. This being said, why is Wikipedia (admittedly not the best resource, but...) apparently reporting a different thermal decomposition reaction mechanism for LiAlH4? Would those documents you linked imply that the Li from the LiH in the second step actually manages to remain isolated and eventually boil without first getting alloyed with other metals inside the reactor or getting oxidized, as I was fantasizing?]]></description>

From what I recall reading, there is a lot of cooler surface area available for that occurance. Also, if the vapors do condense it seems likely that plenty of heat would be deposited from the gas in this region. Do you see any sign of heat deposition?
